Shelby is a writer, art enthusiast, and sometimes-lawyer. Her Oklahoma upbringing + years in Colorado, Seattle, and Switzerland instilled a passion for mountains, fresh air, and adventure. Shelby finds inspiration in indie bookstores, cool cafes, porch swings and art of all mediums, from painting to ballet. She lives in the suburbs of Washington, DC with her husband, three kids and a much-beloved Cavapoo. Vices include Twitter, Tex Mex, country music, and hoppy IPAs. Shelby is a citizen of the Caddo Nation, an Indian tribe located in Oklahoma.
Shelby is the founder and creative director of Settles Harper, a pop up art gallery featuring contemporary Native American artists.
Shelby is the founder and director of Cahkeydonee Literary Project, a non-profit that partners with tribes to put books and other reading materials in the hands of young people from reservation communities where public libraries are not readily accessible.
